Bibi-Heybat today

The revived shrine once more receives pilgrims and visitors from all over the world.

A living shrine

Open to all once more

Today Bibi-Heybat is a working mosque and one of the main spiritual centres of Azerbaijan. People come to pray at the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum and simply to see the revived shrine above the sea.

The rebirth of Bibi-Heybat became a symbol of the return of the country's religious heritage after decades of bans. The mosque is visited by both the faithful and tourists from all over the world.

The mosque stands right by the highway at the southern entrance to Baku, on the Caspian shore, so it is easy to reach at any time.

Silence and light

A place where people pray again

Inside the revived mosque silence, light and prayer reign once more. Marble, tiles and golden calligraphy create an atmosphere of peace at the very edge of the sea.

For many, Bibi-Heybat is not a museum but a living place of faith, to which they return again and again.
